I must agree with Nabokov. Details are important to me when I read a book or a story. If there isn't a lot of details I tend to lose interest in what I'm reading. I also agree that in order to be a good reader one must have imagination, memory, a dictionary , and some artistic sense. With out these characteristics I think it would be difficult to focus and understand what it is your reading. And as for being a rereader, I also agree with Nabokov in this. some of my favorite books have been books that I have read many, many times, and each time I reread them I discover something new in them. Although, I don't have a lot of spare to read for enjoyment, when I do I enjoy it very much. So yes I do consider myself to be a good reader.
Here is one novel that I have enjoyed reading and rereading!
Hi Nette! I enjoyed reading your blog about Good readers. I completely agree with you about the book needing to have lots of detail. Without detail it is very hard to imagine what is actually going on. I think it is great that you can reread books that you enjoy many times. I am not much of a reader lately, but when I was, I have never made it through the same book twice. It seems that your point of view and Nabokov agree on the same points of being a good reader. Good post!
